Renewal of the ADAC Maps application

For the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club e.V. (ADAC), we developed an optimized and updated version of the ADAC Maps web application, combining the route planner with an integrated travel guide for individual planning.

Shortcuts to the project

The customer's goal was to meet current and future digital requirements. As a result, we were commissioned by ADAC to redevelop its web-based map application “ADAC Maps.” The redevelopment of ADAC Maps Web is intended to create a core component of tourist advice for ADAC members, bringing together relevant information, services, and benefits in a single application. Our vision: a reliable application that accompanies users on their journey—simple, forward-looking, personal, and inspiring.

Focus on users

Although ADAC Maps Web is essentially a map application, the wealth of information and POIs available in the ADAC database should be easy to find. To support this endeavor, an SEO agency participated in the project in an advisory capacity during implementation.
The UX design focuses on travelers and their travel planning needs. Through continuous feedback, we were able to develop a product in which all information can be found perfectly in a small space, making travel planning really enjoyable. The results of classic thinking aloud usability testing and beta testing with prototypes and in the live system were continuously incorporated into the design and development process. Regular user feedback days allowed users to influence the further development of ADAC Maps. The result is a truly user-centered application.

Hello ADAC Maps

The tried-and-tested route planner was previously used to create around 20 million routes per year. Now, our project team has helped the ADAC to relaunch and expand its ADAC Maps, offering new features, easier operation, and additional content. This has enabled us to combine a route planner and travel guide in one application. Since the end of September 2022, the route planner has been providing a comprehensive overview of leisure activities and sights, routes specifically for motorhomes, trailers, and motorcycles, as well as information on travel costs for tolls, vignettes, fuel, and electricity. Further development of the web-based map application is planned until the end of 2023 for the time being.
