We developed a progressive web app for the Tegernsee Schliersee Alpine region with various guest information and live data, which serves as a comprehensive travel companion for guests to the region.

The Tegernsee Schliersee Alpine region is a popular Bavarian tourist region with around 2.6 million overnight stays and over 8 million day visitors a year, particularly from the Munich metropolitan area. We implemented the project for Regionalentwicklung Oberland KU, which combines business and tourism promotion for the region under one roof. We integrated various guest information into the new progressive web app, such as live data on weather and traffic conditions and the region's tourist offerings. The application is intended to help ensure the attractiveness of the tourism region and the living space in times of high demand.

How the app provides visitor flows in the Alpine region with real-time data

If you want to drive to Lake Schliersee or the Tegernsee Valley at the weekend, you often have to be patient when the weather is fine. Due to the high volume of tourism in the Tegernsee Schliersee Alpine region, a concept was developed by the region to provide guests with better information and thus equalize traffic peaks and ideally distribute visitors more evenly throughout the region. The basic idea was to measure traffic flows and parking lot utilization with the help of sensors and inform guests live. The traffic data collected is also linked to the tourist offer. In the event of high traffic volumes, the app suggests alternatives to the most popular excursion destinations and hiking tours in order to balance out the number of visitors.

Successful implementation of the live data project

The challenge was to aggregate data from different sources in real time and to design the visualization of the occupancy forecasts. We convinced the client with our expertise in the field of tourism data and real-time data. We were also able to score points with a screen design and our creative approach for the B2C application.
