Website relaunch for Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences

Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences is on a growth trajectory: by 2025, the number of students is expected to grow from the current figure of around 3,000 to approximately 3,700. This growth strategy is being driven forward by an expansion of the range of courses on offer and a completely revamped corporate design. The latter forms the basis for a digital relaunch and the relaunch of the website hs-bremerhaven.de based on Pimcore.

Shortcuts to the project

Whether it was degree programs, research projects, contact persons, institutes, or scientific publications—a key challenge of this project was to develop a technical solution that would allow large amounts of heterogeneous information to be structured in a meaningful way and managed efficiently. Instead of the previous 1:1 representation of the university structure on the web, we worked with the team at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences to focus on the needs of the target groups. Based on an analysis of user behavior and information requirements, a completely revised website structure was designed. Another focus was on editorial organization: The new solution was to enable a decentralized editorial team to independently maintain and publish content—e.g., individual departments or research projects. Pimcore provided a future-proof foundation for this: a clearly structured backend and a well-thought-out role and rights model facilitate work in the system and encourage active participation by employees.

Towards digitalization with Pimcore

"Ich freue mich darüber, dass wir mit Pimcore unseren Mitarbeitenden ein Werkzeug an die Hand geben können, mit dem sie eigenständig redaktionell arbeiten können", sagt Prof. Dr. Dr. Alexis Papathanassis, Rektor Hochschule Bremerhaven.

The decision was based on Pimcore's user-friendly backend and comprehensive role and rights system, which allows around 150 editors to edit only the data objects, assets, and pages (documents) that have been approved for them. A CMS construction kit was implemented for editorial work, which can be filled with content from centrally maintained data objects using drag & drop. This gives all employees the opportunity to contribute to the brand awareness and growth of the university.

Open to all without barriers

Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences is launching its new brand identity, which is not only modern but above all accessible—an essential step for a forward-looking educational institution. When translating the corporate design into digital form, our focus was therefore on accessibility. And that doesn't just mean changing colors or adjusting fonts. Accessibility must be thought of holistically. How can the website be used without barriers, without a mouse? What does the screen reader recognize? What additional information do images need? And all this without compromising the user experience.

What our customer says

It was time for a compelling, modern presence that also works optimally digitally in order to efficiently address our main target group—prospective students. We are delighted to have achieved this milestone together with team neusta.
