Shortcuts to the project
The Lower Saxony Foundation operated several websites using the Magnolia content management system, version 5.x. This version will soon no longer be supported by the manufacturer. As a result, the three websites were completely relaunched on Magnolia 6.2. The websites went live at the beginning of December 2023 and impress with their modern and responsive design. The editors were also taken into consideration—the individual modules are easy to maintain and flexible in use.
Analysis
First, we examined how much effort would be required to update to the next Magnolia version and whether it would be worthwhile to switch to a different CMS. However, an in-depth analysis of the service and the existing Magnolia implementation showed that Magnolia was still the most suitable system. We therefore decided to relaunch with version 6.2.
Concept & Development
Starting in March 2023, the concept and design were developed using Magnolia Community Edition. Since this was not Magnolia Enterprise Edition, functionalities such as the multisite function had to be developed independently and implemented in a cost-effective manner. In addition, the front-end development framework “Frontwerk” and the “enhanced Author Experience” (eAX) were used.
Accessibility
Accessibility was taken into account in the design: there is a text option in simple language, the option to adjust font sizes, and the websites can be operated using a keyboard. This allows everyone to access the information provided.
