Shortcuts to the project
The relaunch project for Deutsche Jugendherberge (German Youth Hostels) aimed to revamp its online presence. The structural complexity of DJH, consisting of over 400 youth hostels and 15 regional associations, was integrated into a uniform and user-friendly website. The new website offers a dynamic system that can be continuously expanded. It enables online booking of the entire product range in several languages, thereby reducing the volume of telephone bookings. The system also supports the work of around 50 editors.
Challenge: Integrating a complex organization into a digital platform
The main task was to combine the structural complexity of the DJH, consisting of over 400 youth hostels and 15 regional associations offering individually customizable trips (including extra services), into a coherent, user-friendly online environment and make it bookable. This required careful coordination of design, functionality, and content management to create a platform that meets the needs of both the organization and its users.
Technical implementation: TYPO3 and C# – A synergy of modern technologies
The choice fell on a TYPO3 platform as the content management system, supplemented by a C#-based booking system hosted on Windows servers. This combination made it possible to implement a robust, flexible, and scalable solution that could efficiently handle the wide range of offerings.
SEO
As part of the Deutsche Jugendherberge relaunch project, we were responsible for search engine optimization (SEO) and Google Analytics. This included conducting workshops with the DJH, integrating onsite SEO functionalities into TYPO3, and integrating and customizing tracking functions. These measures served to improve the online presence and findability of the website and to gain insights into user behavior in order to further optimize the website.
