Shortcuts to the project
The loading equipment management system, which has been in place since 2006 and is based on a standard solution, needed to be redesigned to simplify the management of racks for the delivery of glass surfaces. The focus was on incorporating the experience gained from using and operating the existing solution into the redesign. The result is a flexible engine that maps the physical movements of the racks as bookings in the system. The platform allows Gestellpool to identify the location of the racks at any time, enabling controlled return. The platform is complemented by the Android and iOS app “Gestellpool Scanner.”
preliminary phase
We collected the requirements for the application and compiled them in a product backlog. The requirements were then prioritized together with the client.
Cost estimate
To estimate the complexity, we examined the individual requirements from the product backlog from different perspectives. In addition to the developers and testers, employees from Gestellpool also took part in the estimation workshops.
Result
We implemented the new platform as a web application with a central server (backend), designing the backend as a Spring Boot application that can be operated without an additional application server. For the frontend, we designed a modern, user-friendly UX and implemented it using the Angular framework.
The option of controlled return means significantly fewer losses, as racks can be tracked accurately and their whereabouts can usually be determined. This is because if racks remain at a location for too long, rental fees are incurred. The platform makes it possible to consolidate trips by planning the return of racks, thereby saving on transport capacity.
The additional Android and iOS app “Rack Pool Scanner” makes it possible to register transport racks that are ready for collection, so that their return to the owners can be logistically planned and implemented.
