Optimization of payment processes: Migration to Adyen

Our experts migrated the payment provider in Gebr. Heinemann's web shop from Concardis to Adyen in order to standardize payment processes, make them more secure, and optimize user-friendliness. By implementing modern payment options such as Apple Pay and Mobile Pay and adapting them to the web shop design, we were able to improve the customer experience in the long term.

Shortcuts to the project

As a retailer and distributor, Gebr. Heinemann combines expertise in all sales channels in travel retail. The company operates stores at airports and border crossings, on cruise ships, ferries, and airplanes, as well as downtown shops, diplomatic missions, and special military zones. Our experts successfully migrated the payment provider for Gebr. Heinemann's EU web shop from Concardis to Adyen. This change represented an important step in the strategic development of the web shop. The main goal was to combine all payment options under one platform, increase security, and optimize user-friendliness. A particular challenge was the seamless integration of Adyen into the existing SAP Commerce Cloud Shop, while another payment provider continued to be used for the Australian market. In addition, the project required the implementation of additional payment options such as PayPal and Apple Pay. Our experts customized the external payment pages to match the design and functionality of the web shop to ensure an optimal customer experience. With the successful migration, Gebr. Heinemann was able to significantly increase the efficiency and security of payment processing and future-proof the web shop.

Integration of modern payment options

The process began with a comprehensive analysis and proof of concept (POC) for Adyen to define the technical requirements. The existing situation was then compared with the desired new payment options.
The integration of the Adyen upgrades required manual integration into the web shop and a comprehensive refactoring of the web shop code. Finally, the migration to Adyen's “drop-in integration” was carried out, which supports state-of-the-art payment options such as Mobile Pay while ensuring backward compatibility during the cutover.
Thanks to the successful integration and connection to SAP Commerce, customers of the Gebr. Heinemann web shop now benefit from new payment options such as Apple Pay, Mobile Pay, and the Danish Dankort credit card. The positive feedback from Gebr. Heinemann underscores the improved payment processing and increased security.
