Innovative customer referral program for BARMER

Since July, the health insurance company BARMER has been offering an innovative customer referral program that rewards recommendations with non-cash prizes or a cash-out option. Developed by Goldmarie & Friends, one of our subsidiaries, the program offers transparency, flexibility, and high performance.

In July, the health insurance company BARMER launched an innovative, flexible, and future-proof customer referral program (KWK). Customers and non-customers can receive non-cash rewards for referrals or choose the cash-out option. The experts at Goldmarie & Friends, one of our subsidiaries, developed the program. It stands out in particular for its transparency, flexibility, high performance, and manual management options.

Referrals are one of the most important sales channels for BARMER health insurance. However, the previous process was not ideal: cash rewards and occasional vouchers were the only options, and the referral website was not flexibly customizable and therefore did not fully reflect BARMER's corporate identity (CI). There was also a lack of transparency and data sovereignty. The performance of the old system was also inadequate. Goldmarie & Friends was therefore tasked with developing and implementing a new, tailor-made customer referral program.

The new, innovative program includes significant innovations, such as:

  • Incentive of €25.00 for each referral (converted into points: 2,500 points)
  • Individual rewards shop with non-cash rewards and cashout option
  • Automated cashout function via finAPI
  • APIs for confirming referrals and reporting all transactions to BARMER
  • Comprehensive reporting and manual administration options
  • Manual input options for hand-filled recommendation forms

During the project, strict legal requirements had to be followed, within the framework of which BARMER operates as a health insurance company. It was also important to integrate a secure, automated cash payout process via finAPI – including an IBAN validity check. An interface enables BARMER employees to independently generate referral codes and create participant accounts.

The KWK program is intended for both customers and non-customers and offers numerous advantages:

  • Automatic processing of customer referrals, automated status adjustment, and points credit upon contract conclusion.
  • Extensive redemption options in an individual rewards shop
  • Secure and streamlined cashout process
  • Full data sovereignty over transactions
  • Individual campaign implementation through versatile customization options
  • Multilingualism and accessibility

With this innovative program, BARMER is strengthening its position in the market and offering its insured members a modern and flexible way to receive rewards for referrals. The aim is to attract new customers in a targeted manner. The program also contributes to the appreciation of existing customers and strengthens their loyalty by rewarding their referrals.
