November 6, 2024 – Our colleagues at neusta mobile solutions have been honored with the German Design Award 2025 for their design of the app for the German Police Union (GdP). They received the award in the category “Excellent Communications Design – Interactive User Experience.” The app supports patrol officers in their daily work and impressed with its intuitive shift planner and calendar design.

This award highlights the GdP app as a pioneering project for the digitalization of everyday police work. "We are proud that our work has been recognized with the German Award. It is a confirmation of the creativity and passion we have put into this project. With the GdP app, we have created a user-friendly, digital solution that simplifies and improves the everyday work of police officers," says Christine Fitch, UX/UI designer at neusta mobile solutions.

Implementation

Numerous expert interviews with police officers enabled the development team to get to know the needs of the users: These include, for example, being able to enter their own appointments and change shifts retrospectively. However, the most important requirement was to be able to share their own shifts with colleagues and family members.

The shift planner itself impresses with its ease of use: users are guided step by step through the shift planning process. "It was particularly important to us to make shift planning convenient: Shifts can be added, deleted, or edited with just a few clicks. The view ranges from a monthly overview to detailed daily views. The well-thought-out interaction design and haptic feedback offer an intuitive user experience," says Fitch. Another highlight is the ability to import private calendars, which greatly simplifies duty roster creation. It is also possible to export shift sequences for sharing with family members or colleagues. The design uses color and letter coding to clearly display the shifts. In addition, the interaction elements are arranged so that they can be easily operated with the fingers—a decisive criterion for mobile use. Furthermore, haptic feedback via vibration supports intuitive operation.

About the German Design Award

The German Design Award is a prize that has been awarded annually since 2011 and recognizes outstanding design. It is considered a benchmark for innovative design development and promotes competitiveness in the market. The jury is composed of independent, international experts from industry, academia, and all design disciplines. They evaluate the submitted projects in three categories—Excellent Product Design, Excellent Communications Design, Excellent Architecture—based on fixed criteria such as functionality and usability, overall concept, design quality, degree of innovation, and much more. The projects must stand out in these criteria with special features. The winners become part of a unique network and benefit from greater visibility and reach thanks to the award label.
