Benchmark analysis 2025: Logistics in the digital traffic jam

– Only a few companies are finding the right path to the future.

A comparison of 54 logistics companies shows progress, but also significant shortcomings in transparency, technology, and customer interfaces. When it comes to artificial intelligence, the foundation is still lacking in many cases.

Bremen, November 28, 2025 – team neusta and NetFederation publish the results of the latest Logistics Benchmark 2025. The study examines 54 leading logistics companies in Germany and internationally based on over 120 criteria in the areas of transparency, dialogue, and technology.

The results show that the logistics industry is on the road to digitalization, but has not yet reached its destination. Many lack a clear strategy for the future. While pioneers such as DHL Group (78% compliance rate), DB Schenker (76%), and CEVA Logistics (74%) are setting standards, the majority of companies are in the middle range with 45–60%. At the bottom of the ranking are providers with less than 30%, some of which even lack basic standards such as fast loading times or clear contact options.
The differences are particularly clear in key areas for the future:

Transparency: Only 48% publish basic key figures.
Sustainability: 57% provide sustainability reports, but these are often difficult to find. Only 44% of websites run on green electricity.
Technology: Only 24% achieve good mobile loading times, and only one in two companies meets accessibility standards.
Customer interfaces: Although 90% are active on social media, only a quarter integrate this strategically. Digital self-service portals are offered by 55%, but only 20% offer advanced features.
Artificial intelligence (AI): Less than half of companies (48%) offer accessible, machine-readable content (e.g., usable by ChatGPT); structured data for Google is only available in isolated cases.

Thorsten Greiten, Managing Director of NetFederation:
“We are seeing an industry in transition: Almost all companies use digital channels – but only a few have developed a consistent strategy for doing so. Creating genuine ‘AI readiness’ will be crucial for the future: Data, technology, and content must interact seamlessly in order to become machine-readable and create value.”

Heiko Müller, team neusta:
"The benchmark shows that many logistics companies have already started the digital transformation and are
in the midst of it. Nevertheless, technology integration, digital accessibility, and seamless customer interfaces remain the key challenges. Those who invest strategically in digital excellence can clearly set themselves apart from the competition and successfully implement innovative business models."

The Logistics Benchmark 2025 highlights where the industry is already strong digitally and where urgent action is needed. It provides companies with concrete starting points for sharpening their digital strategy – and thus securing their competitiveness in the international market.
