Flutter app for Dräger

We were commissioned by Dräger to program a Flutter app for the X-Node gas detector. This app reads the measured values live and presents them clearly.

Shortcuts to the project

When developing the new IoT-enabled gas detector X-Node, Dräger set itself the goal of dispensing with a display and control buttons in favor of complete operation via a smart device app. The core task of our project team was to develop this Flutter app for Android and iOS. The specific requirements for the new app were a modern and clear design, an ideal user experience, and an automated connection to the X-Node gas detector. A special requirement was the regulatory-compliant mapping of measurement parameters according to industrial standards. The result is an app that connects to the X-Node gas measuring device via Bluetooth Low Energy. The device measures various gases as well as temperature, humidity, and air pressure via selectable sensor elements, reads the values, and presents them clearly – both in real time and with a logging function. Settings on the X-Node measuring device, such as adjustments to alarm limits or sensor calibration, can also be made via the app. The project is still ongoing and the app is being continuously optimized.

Technologies in use

We rely on modern and proven technologies for the xnode app. The app was developed with Flutter and therefore runs platform-independently on Android and iOS. This makes it maintainable in the long term and future-proof.

Communication with the hardware is energy-efficient via Bluetooth Low Energy, which ensures a stable connection with low power consumption. UART is used for data exchange within the devices.

Since 2021, our project team has been continuously developing the app in agile sprints together with the design and development team.
