SAP Document and Reporting Compliance
SAP DRC is a cloud-based service on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) that can be purchased as an add-on solution, enabling the creation, validation, transmission and archiving of e-invoices and real-time notifications directly from within the SAP system. The solution covers numerous countries worldwide and is continuously adapted to new legal requirements – fully integrated with SAP S/4HANA or SAP ERP.
Components of SAP DRC
The architecture of SAP DRC is divided into three key components:
SAP ERP
S/4HANA Cloud, ECC and other business platforms. This is where the on-premises ERP system runs, with SAP DRC operating as an add-on or integrated component. This includes:
- Local mappings and formats based on local regulations
- Full integration into business processes
- Real-time business monitoring and seamless adjustments for all types of mandates, worldwide
SAP Business Technology Platform
SAP BTP forms the technical backbone of SAP DRC and offers two key services:
- Customer Tenant – SAP Integration Suite. This is where central orchestration, transformation and integration with external systems take place. The tenant is client-specific and ensures flexibility and control.
- Public Cloud Service (SAP-hosted). This facilitates direct communication with national platforms and authorities. It supports, for example, Peppol, Brazil NFE, and other statutory reports. SAP handles the hosting, maintenance and legally compliant development in this area.
External recipients
Public authorities, agencies, business partners: This third level involves the actual transmission of data to:
- National tax authorities (e.g. Italy, Spain, Hungary, Colombia, Mexico, etc.)
- International networks such as Peppol (EU-wide standard for e-invoices)
- Business partners or platforms that receive and process electronic invoices

Why is that important?
More and more countries are introducing mandatory e-invoicing – including real-time transmission to tax authorities. In Southern Europe and Scandinavia in particular, electronic invoicing has already become the norm for outgoing invoices. E-invoicing is therefore no longer just an IT project, but a compliance requirement. Those who make the switch in good time not only ensure compliance with legal requirements but also benefit from more efficient processes, faster processing and better control. SAP DRC prepares businesses for the future of digital compliance – securely, scalably and fully integrated into your SAP system landscape.
