Renewal of the map application ADAC Maps

Our project team, consisting of employees from our group of companies, developed an optimized and updated version of the ADAC Maps web application for the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club e.V. (ADAC), thus combining the route planner with an integrated travel guide.

The client's goal was to meet current and future digital requirements. As a result, the ADAC commissioned us to redevelop its web-based map application "ADAC Maps". The new development of ADAC Maps Web is intended to create a core component of tourist advice for ADAC members, bringing together relevant information, services and benefits in one application.

Important: Visibility in search engines

Although ADAC Maps Web is essentially a map application, the large amount of information and POIs available in the ADAC database should be easy to find. To support this project, an SEO agency took part in the implementation in an advisory capacity. Since the beginning of June 2021, the project team has been working on the backend and frontend of the route planner. Azure services such as Azure Hosting, Azure App Service, Azure Function App, Azure Front Door and Azure Blob Storage were used for the backend. For front-end development, the team worked with Vue.js and Nuxt. Sketch and Sketch Cloud were used for UI/UX concept development.

Hello ADAC Maps

The tried-and-tested route planner was previously used to create around 20 million routes per year. Now our project team has helped the ADAC to present its ADAC Maps in a new and expanded form, to offer new functions, to ensure simpler operation and also more content. We were thus able to combine the route planner and travel guide in one application. Since the end of September 2022, the route planner has provided a comprehensive overview of leisure suggestions for activities and sights, routes especially for motorhomes, caravans and motorcycles as well as information on travel costs for tolls, vignettes, fuel and electricity. Further development of the web-based map application is initially planned until the end of 2023.
